It's all in the wording!

During a scanning lesson today where I teach my pupils to read the road ahead and use all the clues available to them, this conversation arose during the drive :-

Me : "Look right along this lane as far as you can see"
Pupil : "Yes!"
Me : "Notice the shape of the hedgerows and trees."
Pupil "OK!"
Me : "Can you see that the sides of the hedgerows are very tall and straight, and that the top of the tree tunnel is kind of square across the top?
Pupil : "Oh yes!"
Me : "What can you realistically expect to come down here?"
Pupil : "Conkers!"



The answer I was looking for was double decker buses, and HGV's of course.

Every question has to be worded so precisely to avoid this sort of gaff.
Very funny at the time though!
